05.12.2023 - Help us shine a light in the darkness - donate to our Chanukah appeal
Dear supporter,
In these difficult times, the need for a strong Jewish voice for refugee rights and social cohesion is clear.
At HIAS+JCORE, we’re rising to the challenge of growing division and hostile government policy. But we can’t do this work without you: which is why we’re asking supporters to help us shine a light in the darkness this Chanukah, and donate to our 2023 appeal.
We’ve got big plans for 2024. We’re expanding our team – and are working on exciting ideas to increase our engagement!

This weekend, we were involved in two events central to our mission. Firstly, our JUMP project ran a group trip to London Zoo – offering the young people we support the chance to have fun, learn and make friends in a safe environment.
And on Sunday afternoon, we were proud to support the Together For Humanity vigil, and take a stand against hatred and division in the UK.
Next year, we want to run even more of these activities – and further develop our work for community cohesion. We’ll need your help in doing so: please read on to find out more about our plans, and how you can help support us.
Our ambition
We’ve doubled our JUMP project staff, enabling an expansion so that 50 young, unaccompanied asylum seekers feel the benefits of warm, safe befriending relationships – and gain confidence and skills to thrive in their new lives in the UK.
And we’re excited to be planning new volunteering projects for next year, all with the aim of empowering refugees and asylum seekers and enabling them to live in dignity in the UK. We’ll be providing volunteering opportunities so our community can support these journeys to integration and success.
In the shadow of the conflict, we’ve worked hard to ensure positive Jewish calls for social cohesion and solidarity are heard. Antisemitism is on the rise, but it’s important that also we hear and join with other communities to stand against Islamophobia and other forms of racism.
It’s critical that these efforts continue beyond the initial weeks and months: with your support, we’ll continue to join with other communities and faiths, spreading a positive message for a tolerant Britain.
And as we head into a general election year, we’ll be working with other sector organisations to hold the government to account – and pushing all political parties to back a set of compassionate and responsible policies.
These are big goals. But together, and with your support, we can ensure that there’s a strong Jewish voice, advocating for a world free of racism – and where asylum seekers and refugees can live in dignity.
Thank you for your ongoing support, and wishing you a very happy Chanukah.
