Lunch and learn: citizenship, refugees and legacy
Why are many new refugees being blocked from ever becoming British citizens?
Join HIAS+JCORE and Rene Cassin on Thursday 9 October (1pm-2pm) to learn more and find out how you can stand for change.
A Home Office policy, introduced earlier in 2025, effectively blocks anyone who enters this country irregularly from ever gaining citizenship. That’s despite an absence of safe routes for the majority of those who need the UK’s protection.
As British Jews, we know just how important citizenship is for rebuilding lives and integration. So this Sukkot – as our Sukkahs reminds us of the importance of welcome and not excluding others – we’re joining with Rene Cassin for an event showing how you can advocate for this right to be restored.
You’ll hear from:
• A young person from HIAS+JCORE’s JUMP befriending project
• Bishop Guli
• Mia Hasenson-Gross, Executive Director, Rene Cassin
• David Mason, Executive Director, HIAS+JCORE
• Zoe Bantleman, Legal Director of the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association (ILPA)
