Statement on decisions made at the recent Green Party of England and Wales conference

British Jews must be free and welcome to fully participate in civil society and progressive spaces.

Through our work, we see every day how powerfully Jewish values and experience inspire people in our community to stand against racism, support refugees, and speak out for a society where all feel belonging. That outward-looking perspective should be applauded and encouraged.

Within that context, we are deeply concerned about the impact that decisions made at the recent Green Party of England and Wales conference could have for British Jews, including party members.

These developments risk excluding and stigmatising British Jews because of their involvement in Jewish communal life or practicing their faith. There can be nothing anti-racist about that.

HIAS+JCORE is clear: there is no place in any political party for discrimination or prejudice. Movements must bring people together, not drive them apart.

We stand in solidarity with Jews who are feeling isolated and excluded at this time. All political parties must urgently reflect on this damaging situation and ensure that they are safe spaces for Jewish people – as we would expect them to be for all minority communities.
